International Foundation Year

Academic
Good high school graduation grades or equivalent academic study

English Language
Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0 (minimum 5.0 in writing). If you do not need a Tier 4 visa, or are exempted in another way, we can accept equivalent proof of English.

If your IELTS is lower, you can attend the English Language Preparation course to raise your level of English. This intensive course will improve your English language skills up to the required level of IELTS 5.0. Find out more here.

IGCSE / GCSE / O-Level
5 passes A-B in relevant subjects (excluding native language). New grades 9 - 6 in English and Maths.

Laos Baccalaureat / 11th grade – five subjects combining B and C including relevant subjects + one year of further study
Lebanon Baccalaureat - minimum 13 points including relevant subjects and further year of study
Libya Secondary Education Certificate (General Secondary Schools) – 80% or above + evidence one year of further study post completion of secondary school
Macau Cambridge Overseas Higher School Cert A-E (COHSC), part study of Diploma, Higher Diploma or Associate degree

Part study of Diploma or degree programme (one year completion acceptable). 60% from part study, and a 60% pass from Foundation at a good University OR recognised externally-assessed Foundation Programme. Foundations including the following: All China foundation and feeder courses - 75%

English Language Requirements

The English language entry requirements stated are for information regarding entry to the course. If you require a UK visa to study, depending on the type of visa you need, the English language requirements and valid English tests to satisfy the UK visa criteria may differ.

If you are applying to study in the UK under the Tier 4 student route it may be necessary for you to submit a Secure English Language Test (SELT) as part of your visa application.

** Secure English Language Test (SELT) taken before 6th April 2015 is only valid if used as part of a Tier 4 visa application submitted before 5th November 2015. The certificate is subject to the validity periods as outlined in the table in the link above.

Guardianship

To comply with the University of Leicester’s policy, all international students under the age of 18 must have a UK-based guardian and provide the guardian's details to Admissions Centre Co-ordinator before arriving in the UK.

Students under the age of 18 at the start of their course who already have a UK guardian (e.g. a family member in the UK), and students over the age of 18 at the start of their course don't require UK guardianship.

College Guardians has been appointed as the AEGIS accredited UK Guardianship Company for Study Group students. A cost will be incurred for this service and will be charged at confirmation stage. Please visit the College Guardians website for further information.

Under 18s accommodation

If you are under 18 years old at the start date of your course, you must live with a designated family member, in St Georges Tower, or in a university residence.

If you want to live with a family member, you will need to provide an address to the Admissions Centre, and proof of your relationship with the family member, before you can be confirmed on the International Study Centre course.
